Mrs Margaret Holt was recently awarded a medal in recognition of 15 years’ service from the Royal Voluntary Service’s representative Paula Buttle.
The Royal Voluntary Service provides a range of services to support the elderly. This can range from practical support at home to social activities run at local community centres.
Being part of the Darby & Joan Club, Mrs Holt freely volunteers hours of service to ensure that members of the local community benefit. There are always 3 volunteers on hand, operating on a rota basis, with homemade baking provided and ready to be sampled by the waiting members.
The Darby & Joan club is open to the over 55’s, both male and female and is a really great opportunity of getting out of the house and having a natter, a game of bingo and a nice slice of cake with a cup of tea. Bingo is played every week; everyone is welcome and it’s the chance of socialising with fellow over 55’s on a regular basis. The club meet every Tuesday 1.30pm – 4pm and it costs just £1 per week, which for your £1 per week includes 4 trips a year and a FREE Christmas party.
New members are joining all the time and the club would like to welcome their 8 recently joined members. What a great way to meet new friends or catching up with old acquaintances.
