A local farm park is set to open one of its longest running annual attractions this weekend (Sat 15 July) whilst also showing off some of its latest additions.
Boston Park Farm and Tearooms between Hatfield Woodhouse and Blaxton opens its ‘Maize Maze’ from the middle of July to the end of October each year. The maze consists of 5km of paths with a character known as ‘Maizie Maize’ and a number of flag points hidden away for little explorers to find.
The maze pattern is designed along a different theme every year. “This year’s theme is Farmer David driving his tractor and plough”, said Lucy Chappell, part of the family who run the farm and its many attractions.
In addition to the maze the farm park and tearooms also boast a new soft play area along with a number of other new attractions.
Said Lucy: “We have just opened a brand new indoor soft play area suitable for under-eights, which is brilliant for showery days, and we have had a new sandpit barn built and some exciting additions to the play areas – including a bouncy castle which is open all the time, weather permitting.
“As always there are all the animals to see and feed, including alpacas, goats, donkeys, sheep, chickens and pigs. New chicks are also hatching out all the time and we have some adorable baby rabbits now. Each day at 11:30 and 2:30 we get the rabbits and guinea pigs out for a cuddle”.
The farm also have a number of special events planned throughout July and August.
Lucy added: “On the 25th of July we have the lovely people from Reptile Rendezvous bringing all their wild and wonderful animals for you to enjoy.
“Each year we celebrate Yorkshire Day and this year it is on August 1st when there will be ferret racing and falconry displays as well as Yorkshire games and lots more fun throughout the day. Then on 20th August we are holding our teddy bears picnic at the farm, where there are bear hunts and your teddies can have a go at a parachute jump!
“We are also very excited to announce that we are having Trolls party day on Tuesday 29th August. There will Poppy and Branch making appearances and singing songs from the film there will also be crafts and face painting too.
“All our events are ticket only so must be purchased in advance, please contact the farm for more information”.
The farm is open from 10am until 5pm every day with last entry to the maze at 4pm. Entry prices are £6 each for adults and children (3+), £3 for toddlers (1&2 year olds) and £20 for a family ticket (any 4 adults & children). Babies under 1yr are free.
