A free afternoon tea is on offer at a carers social group meeting this week.
The offer is open to carers and former carers at the monthly meeting of Thorne Carers & Former Carers Social Group, which meets at Thorne Methodist Church.
The event takes place in the church hall between 1.00pm – 3.00pm on Friday 14 June. More information is available from Doncaster Carers Reach Out Service on 01302 986900.
Monday (10 June) marked the beginning of Carers Week 2019 and this year’s theme is Getting Carers Connected, with the aim being to ensure that carers of all ages are connected to the support networks and resources on offer.
Doncaster Council says a carer is someone of any age who supports a relative, partner, friend, or neighbour who due to physical or mental illness, disability, frailty, or addiction could not manage without that support.
A series of events are happening across the borough for local people who provide care for others to find out more about support networks and resources available to them.
Councillor Rachael Blake, Cabinet member for Adult Social Care, said: “Carers provide a huge amount of support to health and social care services in this country. There are around 33,000 carers in Doncaster, people who are often balancing these commitments with work, study, and their own health and wellbeing. We would like to say thank you to carers of all ages and want you to know that we can help with advice, support, and services – please do get in touch.”
Carers week ends on Sunday 16 June, see: www.doncaster.gov.uk/carersweek
