A programme of free summer sports and activities are planned for youngsters in Thorne & Moorends.
EXPECT Youth are delivering a programme of free fun activities for children and young people across many areas of Doncaster, including Thorne & Moorends, thanks to funding from the Department for Education Social Mobility Opportunity Area Fund for Doncaster
Children and young people will be able to attend activities free of charge. Activities are designed to help get them active and build essential life skills whilst having fun throughout the school holidays.
EXPECT Summer is being delivered in partnership by Club Doncaster Foundation, Flying Futures, EPIC, Doncaster Culture Leisure Trust, Active Fusion, Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council and dozens of voluntary youth organisations that are part of EXPECT Youth.
The wide range of activities are available mornings and afternoons, Monday to Friday throughout the six-week school holidays.
EXPECT Summer includes weekly camps, as well as daily specific sports, arts, culture and educational activity sessions. These will take place in a number of areas including Thorne & Moorends.
Activities will take place at a number of facilities and venues including Multi Use Games Areas (MUGAs), community centres, libraries, sports centres and schools. An EXPECT Summer mobile engagement bus will also operate across the areas to publicise the programme and encourage young people to attend.
Thorne Rugby Club, Moorends Miners Welfare Centre, Thorne Leisure Centre and Wyke Gate Road MUGA are just some of the venues involved.
EXPECT Youth Strategic Development Director, Peter Norman, said; “We are committed to creating opportunities for children and young people to lead a healthy, active lifestyle that will help them unlock their talent and fulfil their potential.
“EXPECT Summer activities will help aid the development of their essential life skills to help them deal with the challenges of everyday life at school, college and employment.”
The free activities start from Monday 23 July and carry on through the summer, Monday to Friday, until Friday 31 August.
