The proposed redevelopment of Hirst’s has finally been given the green light by the National Planning Casework Unit.
Plans to redevelop Hirst’s in Thorne Market Place can now start to move forward in earnest after the National Planning Casework Unit declined to ‘call-in’ the decisions made back in February by Doncaster Council in giving permission for the development.
Two applications were made, one for Listed Building Consent to demolish Hirst’s, and one to redevelop the site of 1&2 Market Place and 8 Silver Street (old police building) after permission to pull Hirst’s down had been granted.
The “calling-in” of a planning application refers to the power of the Secretary of State to take the decision making power for a planning application out of the hands of the local authority, allowing him to make his own decision on the matter.
The casework unit have decided not to invoke this power.
A decision notice has now been issued by Doncaster Council to allow works to begin, subject to conditions set out in granting the planning permission.
