Ferry Road in Thorne is set to be closed for up to fourteen weeks to allow work to be carried out on Jubilee Bridge.
Works to the bridge, which crosses the River Don between Thorne and Fishlake, are now scheduled to start on Monday 24 June. The works were originally expected to start a week earlier but Doncaster Council says the proposed end date (6 Oct 2019) remains the same.
The council says the works are necessary after a structural survey found the bridge was in need of strengthening and repair.
As well as strengthening the steelwork, the wooden boards are expected to be replaced with a more durable reinforced plastic deck.
The bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic for the duration of the work and a signed diversion will be in place. Doncaster Council says that as the existing deck is being removed, they are also unable to maintain passage for pedestrians.
