A bridge over a canal at Thorne has reopened after being closed for around three weeks.
Wykewell Lift Bridge, over the Stainforth & Keadby Canal at Thorne, has reopened after being closed to road and boat traffic since Tuesday 19 March following a ‘structure failure’.
Contractors working to fix the bridge have been on site during the closure and have installed temporary brackets.
The bridge was lifted to the fully open position at the weekend, allowing the passage of boat traffic. It was then lowered and opened up to road traffic late yesterday afternoon (Monday 8 April). Boat traffic will now be allowed to pass at specified times with the assistance of the Canal & River Trust.
A spokesperson for the Canal & River Trust said: “We are now in a position to be able to allow assisted passage daily between 9am and 10am.
“We will monitor the impact of this restriction to customers and modify timings to meet local demands when required.
“To book your passage please call 03030 404040.”
