Doncaster Council is offering micro-grants to communities ahead of September’s UCI Road World Championships.
Friday 27 September sees two of the world championship races come through Dunsville, Hatfield and Thorne on their way to the finish line in Harrogate. The two races start out on that day from Doncaster Dome; one race in the morning and the other in the afternoon.
Community groups can now bid for funds to boost their preparations for the international cycling event.
Doncaster Council says the Micro Grant Scheme is being offered to communities to bid for up to £200 to host events in their area, which will get people active and facilitate a ‘festival atmosphere’ in the build-up to the races.
Ros Jones, Mayor of Doncaster, said: “We are all really looking forward to the Road World Championships in September which will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for our residents to see these races speed through their communities.
“Our businesses, schools and communities have made us so proud in the past when they’ve pulled out all the stops to welcome cyclists from the Tour de Yorkshire. I have no doubt that this will be another opportunity to show the world the pride we have for Doncaster and where we live.”
The scheme is open until Friday 9 August.
