Thorne Ladies Netball Club is hosting a tournament and fun day to help a family raise funds for the British Heart Foundation.
The event is being held in memory of Granville Worgan, dad to one of the team’s players, who sadly passed away in January due to heart disease.
Granville’s family hope that the day will be fun for the competitors and people visiting, while also raising awareness of the charity’s work and funds to assist them in that work.
Karren Wake, Thorne Times’ publisher and a member of Thorne Ladies netball club for 30 years, has organised the event with the help of her family and fellow netballers in memory of her “amazing Dad”. Karren said: “We wanted to do something as a family to support the British Heart Foundation and hopefully help anyone else who may be affected by a heart condition.
“Because of my involvement with Thorne Ladies netball cub we thought organising a tournament and fun day would be the perfect way to help raise money for the charity.
“As a family we’re so grateful to all the netballers, our friends and everyone who is helping to put this event on in memory of my amazing dad.
“We’ve had some amazing support from people and businesses who have donated some fabulous prizes for our raffle and tombola. Everyone is welcome to pop along and join us to support this great cause.”
Alongside the tournament, visitors will be invited to ‘shoot-the-hoop’ with the chance to win a prize. Karren says a raffle and tombola will take place on the day and there will be a stall selling donated clothing, dvds and other bric-a-brac where you can “grab a bargain”. One stall will be offering Sand Art activities and another will have hand-crafted cards for sale. Other games to win prizes include ‘name the teddy’ and ‘how many sweets in the jar’.
The event is set to take place on Saturday 8 June, on the netball courts at the rear of Trinty Academy in Thorne, between 10am – 3.00pm. For further information visit the Thorne Ladies Facebook page: www.facebook.com/Thorne-Netball-Club-Milladies
