New business has opened up in Thorne Town Centre with previously empty property being brought back into use.
J & M Thorne Decor welcomed invited guests and members of the public to the launch of the new business earlier today, ahead of its full opening tomorrow, Saturday 8 September.
The store, situated where the former HSBC bank was in Thorne Market Place, is to stock a range of decorating, do-it-yourself and plumbing products.
Thorne Decor proprietor, Joseph Patel, had run the town’s Al Murad tile store for 14 years until the branch closed recently. “People still want to shop locally and were very upset when we closed down”, said Joseph. “The people are nice and I like the town so for that reason I decided to open my own business here”.
The Market Place buildings that were home to the HSBC and Yorkshire Bank branches were both granted planning permission in July this year to allow a change from financial use to a mix of retail, cafe and residential use. The buildings had stood empty since the branches closed in July 2017 and July 2016 respectively.
The first floor (upstairs) space is being converted to accommodation whilst the ground floors have been developed for mixed business use. A role play centre and deli is set to open in the former Yorkshire Bank very soon.
J & M Thorne Decor stocks a range of wallpaper, paints and other decorating products and will be open for business from 9am tomorrow (Sat 8 Sept).
