The Friends of Thorne Community Wood are to celebrate the wood’s 25th anniversary with a day of free events including talks, family activities and the chance to meet the volunteers and other groups involved with the wood.
The 25th Anniversary event will be held on Saturday 14 September. Activities will be taking place in the wood, as well as at Thorne Sea Cadets unit on Union Road in Thorne.
From 11am to 1pm there will be ‘Zog’ themed family activities including a story walk, near the car park off Lock Hill in the wood. Karl Caldwell from the Friends group said: “There will be space set aside for a picnic area, so please feel free to bring your lunch along and join us for a picnic! At the same time there is the chance to meet the volunteers, as well as other groups with a connection to the wood, over at the Sea Cadets. At 1:15pm, also at the Sea Cadets, there will be a short talk about the wood, its history, and the Friends.”
Karl continued: “There will be two guided walks taking place on the day, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. There are a limited number of places available on these walks, and booking is essential. All the activities at the anniversary event are free and, with the exception of the guided walks, you can just come along on the day with no booking required.”
The Friends will also be joined by HM Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire and Thorne Moorends Town Mayor Mark Houlbrook.
