Visitors are being welcomed to an advent crib festival being held at Thorne Methodist Church.
Nativity scenes and other displays for the festival have come from local churches including St Nicholas’, Thorne Pentecostal and St Joseph’s, Moorends.
Many of the displays are hand made and crafted together along with figures that have been picked up from across the country. “Whenever I go to garden centres, wherever it is, I’m always looking for nativity things amongst the tinsel and Christmas trees and buying them”, said Rev. Christine Sutherby.
The display is open today (Thursday 12 December) and also Friday and Saturday from 10am – 3pm at the church on King Street in Thorne.
Then on Sunday the church will host a special service that is open for donations of gifts and toys which will be handed over to the Doncaster Council Stronger Communities team who will hand them out to local families in need of a little extra help this Christmas.
“We just wanted to bring a little bit of the true meaning of Christmas to the local community at the beginning of the season”, added Christine.
The Sunday service (9 Dec) starts at 10.45am.
