An election has been requested to fill a vacant seat for the Thorne town ward on Thorne Moorends Town Council.
Electoral services at Doncaster Council has confirmed that a request to call an election to fill the vacancy has been received.
Signatures from ten or more electors living in the ward are required to call an election.
The nomination period to hand in forms to stand as a candidate begins on Friday 16 February and closes at 4pm on Friday 23 February.
If contested, a by-election will then take place on Thursday 21 March. If only one candidate is nominated, that person would be elected uncontested.

The seat on Thorne Moorends Town Council became available after a councillor was removed under the ‘six-month rule’. The local government act sets out that a member can lose their seat if they fail to attend a meeting of the council for six consecutive months.
