Fire crews were called to Thorne earlier tonight (Tuesday 15th) to tackle a fire at Thorne Hall, Ellison Sreet. Police cordoned off the area around the former council offices whilst fire fighters extinguished the fire.
Fire fighters believe the fire, in an annex to the left hand side of the building, could have been started deliberately. Duty Watch Manager Mick McPhearson said the disused building had been boarded up for some time, had no gas or electric services and was in a bad state of repair.
Built in 1818, the Grade II listed building was sold last year by Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council to Yorkare Ltd, a care provider who have plans to turn the building into a residential care home.
