An all female rugby team is in with a chance of winning up to £100,000 in a national building firm’s cash giveaway and are asking the public for their vote.
Persimmon Homes is giving away over £1 million this year through their Building Futures scheme to help fund projects for young people aged under 18 across England, Wales and Scotland.
Thornensians Lionesses girls’ rugby team has already received £1,000 through the firm’s scheme as a monthly winner and the side has now been shortlisted as a finalist with a chance of winning one of the big main cash awards.
Persimmons’s building futures scheme is split into three categories: Education and Arts, Sport, and Health with an opportunity to win up to £100,000 in each category. Three main prizes are up for grabs in each category: First prize is the £100k followed by £50k for the second place finalist and £20k for third.
Entered in the Sport category, Thornensians Lionesses are described as an inclusive female rugby team that welcomes young people aged nine to 18-years-old. The team is based in Thorne and has more than 31 members. Their plan is to offer coaching sessions for girls in primary and secondary schools in the Thorne area as well as creating coaching masterclasses. In addition, the team says they will use the funds to upgrade and purchase new training equipment alongside recruiting and training more coaches and players to meet their expansion plans.
The lionesses are hoping people will help them acheive their goals by voting for them in the building futures scheme, saying: “Please help us get some much needed investment for the girls of our area and change the face of girls rugby at our club.”
