A section of towpath has been closed alongside the Stainforth & Keadby canal after a leak opened up on the waterway.
The Canal & River Trust say a leak has occurred “close to the M18 bridge” and is affecting a section of towpath near the bridge “that runs parallel to East Ings Road track at Thorne.”
A spokesperson for the Canal & River Trust says: “The team are working to repair the leak as soon as possible.
“The navigation is currently open but this section of towpath above the leak will be closed until the repair is carried out.
“We will update the notice when the leak has been repaired, and once the towpath can be reopened.”
The leak is understood to be affecting the community woodland area, owned by Thorne Moorends Town Council and maintained in partnership with the Friends of Thorne Community Wood.
Canal water is said to be flowing into a ditch and then heading into the wood, with large sections underwater. Parts of the wood have been closed for safety reasons.
A spokesperson for Thorne Moorends Town Council said: “We are aware of flooding in Thorne Community woods and have contacted the appropriate agencies.
“Parts of the woods will be closed until further notice for your safety.”
